I got in Friday afternoon and checked out the Visitor Center for awhile. I wanted to go for a hike, but I took a wrong turn and spent the rest of the daylight just driving around. It was rainy and foggy with poor visibility but I could tell I was in a gorgeous place.
I was then off to check in to my cabin at White Oak Lodge and Resort. I wasn't sure what to expect. I found this two bedroom cabin online for about what I normally pay for a cheap hotel, so I was skeptical. I couldn't have been more wrong! The cabin was gorgeous! There was plenty of room for the three of us staying there. Instead of describing it, I'll show you around in the video below. In the video you'll meet my expedition partners Jack and Micah. If Jack looks familiar you may remember him from way back when. He's been on the blog wake boarding and exploring the Redwoods before.
After exploring a few of the restored buildings, we began a hike in to Abrams Falls. At the base of the falls we enjoyed our peanut butter sandwiches in a hammock before it was time for more exploring.
**Note to self: Don't ask Jack if he thinks he can climb something. He thinks he can and he will.**
I took a less risky route to the top of the falls. The view was worth the effort, but finding a way down was tricky.
On our last day we drove the same route I accidentally took the first night. The weather was much clearer and we could see for miles. If the park is this gorgeous in mid-March I hope I get to see it in the fall sometime.
Go. Live.

I loved Gatlinburg. We had a room right on the river and it was magical. Great place to spend your 30th. Happy belated!
Welcome to the 30 club. I can't say life gets any better of worse seven months in! A hot tub at the end of a day in the hills is ideal and a lovely way to end your birthday too! Happy birthday.
Amazing sounding birthday!! Heading to 30 myself in several months and as I'm not sure what that's supposed to look like either, I may just take a cue from you and plan a little trip outside the ordinary! Happy belated birthday! ~ Carolann
Thirty!
Happy Birthday (for the record you're still young) ;-)
Gorgeous place to be able to celebrate it too!
The US is the best place if you love national parks. They're all so different!
What a gorgeous place to stay. If we visit that area, those log cabins (homes) will definitely be on my list. Welcome to the thirties. They are wonderful.
That's my kind of a birthday celebration. Sounds like a lot of fun! Happy birthday!
What a great post and a fab way to celebrate your 30th birthday! The cabin looks delightful and a hot tub to soak your feet in after a long days hiking sounds ideal. Happy Birthday!!

I love the Smoky Mountains. My parents retired nearby! Thanks for bringing back lots of great memories!
"I ended the weekend 30, tired, and happy. You're never too old to explore, go some place new, or do something you've never tried before. Here's to another year of pushing boundaries and broadening horizons."
- I loved how you ended this article! You are never too old to explore and today is the youngest you'll ever be. I guess, I'd spend my 30th birthday the same way... Tired and happy but rearing myself to still be pushing boundaries. Inspiring! Thank you
your hikes sounded awesome. What month would you recommend going to see the wildflowers in full bloom? April? Also, loved watching your video and getting the tour of the cabin, that was plush!
30 is the new 20, right? Happy, happy!
